healthy-lifestyleIn June 2009, a study published in the American Journal of Medicine, states that the number of middle-aged and older American adults who eat right, exercise regularly and keep their weight under control has declined over the past twenty years.

In 2006, only 26% of Americans between the ages of 40 and 75 years old consumed five or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day, compared to 42% back in the year 1988. Also stated in the report was that 43% of people in this age group worked out at least three times a week compared to 53% back in 1988.

As a result, the number of overweight Americans increased from 28% in 1988 to 36% in 2006. This increase indicates unhealthy lifestyle habits which translate into increased incidence of poor blood sugar and cardiovascular health.

Researchers looked at the top five healthy lifestyle factors, including maintaining a normal weight, getting regular daily exercise, eating raw fruits and vegetables, not smoking, and drinking moderate amounts of red wine. Sadly only 8% of Americans followed all five healthy lifestyles. Back in 1988, over 15% of Americans followed these recommendations.

Research shows that is it never too late for middle-aged and older adults to make lifestyle changes for the better. This is what my book is all about. Learn about what a normal weight range is, how much daily exercise and what kind is best, how many servings of fruits and vegetables you should be eating and more. Adopting the correct lifestyle changes will produce a healthier, younger looking and younger feeling you.
